About FretFlash
PRODUCTS:
FretFlash and its related products are a highly-refined system developed to give aspiring guitarists (as well as seasoned veterans) a solid foundation to continue building upon while crafting your chops and style.

BACKGROUND:
To develop the FretFlash system to its fullest potential, I have collaborated with Jody Smith, a graduate of East Tennessee State University. He has a degree in music and is classically trained in guitar and voice. Jody is returning to school to attain his master's degree and eventually will train musicians at the collegiate level. He currently gives guitar lessons and is building a recording studio.

I've been playing guitar since 1987. I attended Radford University in Virginia for music business. I have since also earned a degree in computer programming and one in multimedia. I've worked for a time in a recording studio, as an instructor, and as a co-producer, promoter, booking agent, and webmaster for local bands. I'm a very well-educated, experienced, and well-rounded guy. I have played in several bands with several different styles; progressive/groove rock, alternative/modern rock, classic rock, metal, folk, etc.

I've recently been invited to play guitar with The Wheel, a phenomenally talented group of musicians playing jazz and jam-band freestyle types of music along the lines of The Grateful Dead, Phish, Widespread Panic, etc.

Thanks so much for taking the time to look into my learning resources and best of luck to you in your guitar playing and all you do.

One thing all these legends have in common is that they not only know music, they also know their instrument inside and out. The FretFlash system will get you to that next level - in very little time. Serious guitarists know that once you know your guitar you can learn to play it ten times faster. Another thing all the greats share is that they started learning the same way you and I did - with tons of time and hard work. The main difference between these pros and myself is that they practiced day and night and put in a whole lot more hours than I did. I didn't feel that I had the time and I didn't have the confidence to drop out of school and quit my day job to pursue rock stardom. But it's true that with dedication and practice comes perfection.

The thought of spending hours per day doing drills and exercises was daunting and kept me from realizing my true guitar potential for a long time. Nobody wants to play the same note over and over and over calling out its name to try and commit it to memory. That's not playing guitar, that's work! With FretFlash, that old tedious way of learning is over.

I thought there was little chance of me ever becoming the guitarist I really wanted to be. Sure, I have a great ear and good musical sensibility, but I wasted so much time just playing along with CDs and the radio. I tried to jam with some friends a couple times, but inevitably they'd tell me what key they were playing in and it would be meaningless to me. I had no idea what to do or where to be on the neck of my guitar. I felt useless - and I basically was. I personally used FretFlash as soon as I first developed it and in a couple of days I knew five times the notes on the guitar. I've been playing for about 19 years now and I've found (just as any instructor will tell you) that there's no magical way around practice and a solid understanding of the fundamentals, but I've also found the quickest and easiest ways to accomplish skill-building goals. As a seasoned guitarist, I can also tell you that no matter how advanced you or any other musician becomes, every single one will benefit greatly by getting back to basics and keeping up on their groundwork. The FretFlash system does just that for you. Quickly. Easily. Thoroughly.

You can spend years learning theory and how to sight-read, but unless you apply it, you still can't play any particular instrument worth diddly. Sure, FretFlash cards will also teach you how to read the music staff, but the key to success is the order in which you learn things. Step one in learning to master ANY instrument is to become intimate with the instrument itself. That's where this system really shines. The music will then come ten times more quickly. The FretFlash system will give you the absolute quickest mastery of your guitar.

Remember learning your multiplication tables back in grade school? How long did it take? A week? And that was without any particular structure at all. The FretFlash system is broken down into 3 easy phases. With the conveniently color-coded green cards, learn frets one through four first - they're the most commonly used. Then learn frets 5-8 with the yellow cards, and finally 9-12 with red. I've even included 12 fretboard maps (blue coded) that show you at a glance where every single one of the 12 different notes in the music world occur on the fretboard! Once you get to fret twelve you're done! There's only twelve notes in music, A-G and five sharps/flats! Once you know that the 3rd fret from the nut on the low string is G, you'll also know G is the 3rd fret past the double-dotted 12th fret. All the notes repeat after the 12th fret!

FretFlash is not only a pack of flashcards, but included is a complete system showing you several techniques for using them. You choose the method that works best for you. All are designed specifically to give you total fretboard control in the least amount of time possible - and a few are fun games you can play with a partner so you can both learn more quickly together!

Just like anything else, you get out what you put in. The rate of speed you learn your instrument is entirely up to you. FretFlash flashcards are a tool that will let you learn your instrument with blinding speed, but it's up to you to do it. With only about 15 or 20 minutes of use each day, or even every other day, you'll learn the neck of your guitar in no time at all. In less than a month you'll have already completely learned your instrument and even conquered some intermediate skills!

The system costs $14.48 on the FretFlash website and $29.95 retail. And as a special promotion here on ebay FretFlash is LESS THAN $8 for the whole system. At such a low price, it's less than the cost of any single private lesson! AND you get to learn at your own pace. Costly private instruction usually only lasts about an hour per week. Anyone can (and should) learn more than just an hour's worth of material each week. You can learn in just a few days what an expensive private instructor would take weeks to teach you. Don't hold yourself back - give yourself a head start. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing at all wrong with pursuing private instruction. In fact, if you can afford it, I highly recommend it. But think, if you already know the neck of your guitar like nobody's business, you'll be able to increase the absorption rate of your instructor's teachings TENFOLD!

Know where you're going and how to get there. Learn all the notes on the fretboard of your guitar with FretFlash and never second-guess yourself again. Truly great playing ability comes from confidence. And confidence comes with a solid foundation and mastery of the fundamentals. Period. FretFlash will boost your esteem and impress your friends. FretFlash System - when you want to do it right, and you want to do it right now!

Thanks and enjoy!

FretFlash

Now that you've heard my journey into guitardom, let me run down the facts on how FretFlash has made me become a much better player, and how it will benefit you, too.

  1. Your creativity is allowed to soar because you're not wasting all that time figuring out what to do and where to do it. You just play.
  2. During a performance, instead of worrying about getting lost or making mistakes, your mind is now free to focus on the rhythm and the music itself. Now you are able to express yourself much better and your own style starts to emerge. Just about anyone can learn to play just about any instrument. Your style is what's going to make your playing YOUR playing. This is often considered one of THE most important things in the world of guitar.
  3. Now that you are so familiar with your guitar, you're a lot more confident and relaxed when you play. And confidence really shows when you're playing. Confidence is another one of the most important things you can take to a performance (or anywhere else, really - people love it and eat it up like candy).
  4. You no longer need any more of those "chord charts" or "fretboard charts" because you have a master chart fixed firmly in your mind and at the tips of your fingers.
  5. When someone tells you the key they are playing in, now you're right there with them.
  6. You now understand chords much better. No more figuring out where to put your fingers and rote memorization... but real notes - A, E, G, D....
  7. You learn chords faster because you understand what notes go into creating them.
  8. You can also create and improvise any chords you want right on the spot. Once you know which notes make a chord (e.g. A major = A + C# + E) then you can immediately play it in many different ways and places, all over the fretboard, according to your creative whim.
  9. The same thing is true for scales, arpeggios, voicings, etc.
  10. Knowing what notes are where is THE key to successful improvisation - and that's what good songwriting, jamming, and soloing is all about.
  11. You can play any note you want, any time you want, with absolutely no fumbling around and wasting time.
  12. You can translate the notes in your mind into driving sound from your amp or acoustic guitar.
  13. We all run into ruts at times, but learning the fretboard can get you back on top of your game.
  14. No more hitting wrong notes because you're no longer guessing which note to play next.
  15. Many self-taught musicians have their own strengths and usually many gaps, as well. Learning the fretboard can completely fill one large gap and indirectly helps immensely with very many other gaps.
  16. Keep in mind that no matter how advanced you ever become, you (and all the best) will make a mistake now and then. What sets great guitar players apart is that they can just keep right on playing because they know they made a mistake and know where to go next to mask it.
  17. With a working knowledge of the frets you better understand what others are playing. When you see another guitarist or bassist playing, you immediately know which notes they're playing, and make much more sense of it all.
  18. You may now observe, remember, and then use any good lick or riff that you notice when someone else plays.
  19. So simple a child can easily master the system, yet so systematic and powerful everyone will benefit.
  20. All your angles are covered with FretFlash. The system can train you to:
    • Know any note from any fret on the neck
    • Know every fret on the neck corresponding to any note
    • Know exactly where on your neck lies a note from the music staff
    • Know where a note would appear on the music staff from any note you decide to play
    • Know sharps and flats equally well. 5 of the 12 musical notes have two names. For example, C# (sharp) and Db (flat) are the exact same note. Since the note may be called by either name, it is important that you know it both ways equally well.
  21. All the cards are large flashcard size - 3¼" by 5¼" - and very easy to see.
  22. Included are 12 blue-coded fret map cards showing where every single note is on the neck (e.g. where EVERY F# is located, every Eb, etc.). That way, if you're learning a particular scale or key, you can learn where every single playable note is right away.
  23. Also included are instruction cards detailing how to use the system to its fullest potential so you can keep the time it takes you to learn your guitar to a bare minimum.
  24. A few fun game ideas for the cards are also included and will help you learn even faster - and you're having fun while your learn. You can even learn with a friend to minimize both your learning curves.
